Why did the Mumbai Indians not keep Hardik Pandya?

The Indian Premier League (IPL) team Mumbai Indians (MI) suddenly released Hardik Pandya ahead of the blockbuster IPL auction. MI elected to keep skipper Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard, and Suryakumar Yadav despite the absence of Hardik Pandya.

The main reason why the Mumbai Indians did not re-sign Hardik Pandya:
Many experts expected that Hardik Pandya would be released this year even before the retention list was released. Hardik was a key team member in the IPL 2020, but he struggled in the IPL 2021.
Another factor to consider is that Hardik Pandya, who previously bowled four overs at a medium speed, could not bowl at all during IPL 2021 due to injury concerns. These on-field and off-field concerns could be primary reasons why the Mumbai Indians released Hardik Pandya.
While the Mumbai Indians may re-hire Hardik, there will undoubtedly be stiff competition for the player with outstanding finishing ability and extensive T20 experience.

3 CSK PLAYERS WHO MAY NOT APPEAR IN ANY GAME

In the Indian Premier League, Chennai Super Kings is one of the most successful franchises. MS Dhoni’s team has won four championships, the most recent in 2021. CSK has put up a solid squad to recapture the crown and tie the Mumbai Indians’ record of five Championship
The Super Kings retained Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Moeen Ali, who entered the auction with a purse of INR 48 crore. During the auction, the franchise did not surprise the fans by sticking to their previous policy of backing their core players, and Chennai could reclaim many of its players from the last season.
CSK paid a hefty INR 14 crore for Deepak Chahar. Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo, Shivam Dube, Devon Conway, and others were among the 20 players purchased. In the IPL 2022 season opener, the MS Dhoni-led franchise will face Kolkata Knight Riders.

That’s three players are:

1. Maheesh Theekshana

Maheesh Theekshana, Sri Lanka’s right-arm off-break spinner, makes his international debut. Last year was his first season with the island nation. In four One Day Internationals and 15 Twenty20 Internationals, the spinner has taken six ODI and fourteen T20I wickets.
Adding Theekshana to CSK’s team for INR 70 lakh was a steel transaction completed during the auction. However, the spinner is expected to wait until the Indian Premier League to make his debut. The top two spinners for IPL 2022 will be Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali, with Mitchell Santner on the bench.

2. Narayan Jagadeesan

In India’s domestic circuit, Narayan Jagadeesan is a well-known name. The 26-year-old has been putting in performances for his trained team Tamil Nadu. Jagadeesan has scored 1261 first-class runs in 26 games, and 1260 List A runs in 36 games.
In the Indian Premier League, the right-handed batter has yet to demonstrate his ability and talent. He was drafted by the Chennai Super Kings in 2018, but he was forced to sit on the bench for the next two years. The wicketkeeper batted in two IPL 2020 games and finished with a duck and 33 runs.
Jagadeesan has yet to appear in an IPL game after the 2020 season. The 26-year-old is likely to return to the Chennai Super Kings’ bench.

3. Mitchell Santner

Mitchell Santner, a left-arm orthodox spinner and left-handed batter, was selected by CSK during the auction. The franchise paid INR 1.90 crore for the spinner’s services. Santner has been with CSK since 2018. However, he has only appeared in six games so far, and he has six wickets in six IPL matches.
In international cricket, the 30-year-old has come a long way and is now a regular for the New Zealand team. Despite his outstanding performance, he is unlikely to play for the Super King.
Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali are Chennai’s two top spinners. Santner was only selected as a backup option for the team.

On March 12, the RCB will name a new captain

The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will announce their captain for the next IPL 2022 season on March 12.
Virat Kohli, the team’s captain for the previous nine seasons, stood down at the end of last season.
There is a lot of speculation about who will captain the club in the next season. After the IPL 2022 super auction, which took place in Bengaluru on February 12 and 13, several names emerged as front runners for the skipper’s position.

Here are three prospective captaincy options for the Royal Challengers Bangalore:

1. Faf du Plessis:

The former South African captain is the front-runner for the RCB captaincy. South Africa has won two WorldT20 tournaments under Faf Du Plessis’ leadership. Before being released before the auction, he was a Chennai Super Kings roster member. RCB signed Faf du Plessis for Rs 7 crore. He has played 100 IPL games and is a seasoned combatant. His extensive league experience and his understanding of captaincy from his time in South Africa make him a strong contender for the position.

2. Glenn Maxwell:

RCB paid a whopping Rs 14.25 crore for Australia’s explosive batsman Glenn Maxwell ahead of the 2021 season. Maxwell led the squad in runs scored with 513 at a 42.75 average last season. Maxwell formerly played for Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians before joining RCB. The right-handed batter leads the Melbourne Stars in Australia’s Big Bash League. In February, Maxwell was named the Melbourne Stars’ BBL Player of the Decade. Maxwell, too, can lead RCB to victory.

3. Dinesh Karthik:

Dinesh Karthik was signed by RCB after the franchisee paid Rs 5.50 crore in the IPL Mega auction in 2022. Since 2018, he has been a member of the Kolkata Knight Riders. He was the captain of KKR for two and a half seasons before stepping down in the middle of the 2020 season. The wicketkeeper hitter has represented Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League.
On the list of players with the most IPL caps, Karthik is tied for second with Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma. Both players have appeared in 213 IPL games. Karthik’s extensive IPL experience with five clubs makes him an ideal contender to captain RCB this season. The Royal Challengers Bangalore are yet to win their first IPL title. Last year, the team finished third in the points standings and was eliminated after losing the eliminator to KKR. RCB has appeared in three IPL finals but has yet to win the championship. The new captain would be expected to lead Karnataka to a title victory.

Which Powerplay Players Have the Best Bowling Figure?

The bowling aspect of a T20 is arguably more complicated than the other because this is a batter-dominated format, but it is also why the role is so important.
Bowling on the powerplay is a challenge because opposing batters want to score runs quickly and take advantage of the fielding restrictions. In this scenario, if a bowler can prevent batters from scoring runs and even dismiss them, the bowling team takes control of the match.

Here are the top five bowlers in the IPL with the best bowling figures in an innings.

1. Pat Cummins:

Pat Cummins drew attention with his 15 crore price tag during the IPL auction, and the Australian pacer proved his worth in the 54th match of the IPL 2020, picking up four wickets in three overs while Kolkata Knight Riders were defending a total of 192. KKR eventually won the game by 60 runs.

2. Dhawal Kulkarni:

To advance to the IPL Finals, Royal Challengers Bangalore had to chase down a target of 159 in the IPL 1st Qualifier. Dhawal Kulkarni of the Gujarat Lions, on the other hand, made life difficult for the home team by taking four wickets in three overs during the powerplay while conceding only eight runs. RCB, on the other hand, won the match by four wickets.

3. Deepak Chahar:

Deepak Chahar, an Indian all-rounder, was a revelation in the IPL 2021 and was subsequently sold for Rs 14 crores in the IPL 2022. After being assigned to bat first in the 15th match of the IPL 2021, CSK recorded a total of 220/3, while Chahar stifled KKR’s prospects by scooping up four wickets in three overs inside the powerplay. Chahar let up 16 runs in the match, which CSK won by 18 runs.

4. Ishant Sharma:

Ishant Sharma, an Indian bowler who has played in over 100 test matches, has recorded the highest bowling numbers for a player inside the powerplay in IPL history. Deccan Chargers bowlers Ishant Sharma and Dale Steyn joined forces in the 32nd encounter of the IPL 2011 to destroy the Kochi batting line-up despite defending a paltry total of 129. In the powerplay, Sharma got five wickets for just 12 runs. His victims were Mahela Jayawardene, Parthiv Patel, Raiphi Gomez, Brad Hodge, and Kedar Jadhav.

5. Ajit Chandila:

Ajit Chandila, a lanky off-spinner, drew attention with his hattrick in the IPL 2012’s 60th match against Pune Warriors India. After electing to bat first, Rajasthan Royals amassed 170 runs. Jesse Ryder and Sourav Ganguly were both dismissed by Chandila in the first over of the second innings. On the first ball of his following over, he dismissed Robin Uthappa. In the three overs he bowled inside the powerplay, Chandila captured four wickets for only nine runs as RR went on to win by 45 runs.

In the Indian Premier League, the batters with the most runs are:

IPL 2022 will begin on March 26th, with the season opener at Wankhede Stadium pitting four-time IPL champions Chennai Super Kings against two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
After one and a half seasons in the UAE due to Covid-related limitations, the IPL is set to return to India. Furthermore, two more teams have entered the competition, bringing the total number of teams to ten, increasing the difficulty level.

Let’s have a look at the highest run-scorers in IPL history.

1. David Warner:

David Warner, an Australian opener who has played for the Delhi Daredevils and Sunrisers Hyderabad, is ranked 5th on this list with 5,449 runs in 150 games at an average of 41.59 and a strike rate of 139.96. With a maximum score of 126 against the Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2017, the left-hander has smashed four hundred and five half-centuries. Warner hit 126 runs off 59 balls, including ten fours and eight sixes, to help SRH record 209/3 in the first innings and win by 48 runs. After being purchased at 6.25 crores by the Delhi Capitals, Warner will return to the IPL in 2022.

2. Suresh Raina:

Suresh Raina, dubbed “Mr IPL,” is the second-highest scorer in the IPL. Raina has 5,528 runs in 205 matches for the Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Lions, averaging 32.51 with a strike rate of 136.73. In the IPL, ‘Chinna’ Thala has scored 39 fifties and a century. Raina’s best IPL score is 100*, which he scored against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2013 when CSK made 186/4 in the first innings and won by 15 runs. The 35-year-old left-hander went unsold at auction and is unlikely to play in the IPL shortly.

3. Rohit Sharma:

Rohit Sharma, the Indian captain, is third on the list with 5,611 runs in 82 matches. In the IPL, the ‘hitman’ has played for the Hyderabad Deccan Chargers and the Mumbai Indians, scoring 40 half-centuries and a century. In the IPL 2012, Rohit scored the highest in a game against Kolkata Knight Riders. MI reached 182/1 in the first innings, winning by 27 runs, thanks to Sharma’s unbeaten 109 runs off 60 balls, which included 12 fours and five sixes. Rohit will captain MI in the IPL 2022 season, leading the franchise to five IPL titles.

4. Shikhar Dhawan:

Shikhar Dhawan, the Indian opener, is the IPL’s second-highest run-scorer. With the Deccan Chargers, Delhi Capitals, Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad, he has 5,784 runs in 192 IPL matches. Shikhar’s best innings came against Kings XI Punjab in IPL 2020, when he hit 106* runs off 61 balls, including 12 fours and three sixes, to assist the team reach 164/5. The match, however, ended in a five-wicket defeat for DC. The 36-year-old has 44 fifties and two centuries in the IPL and will play for Punjab Kings in the IPL 2022 after buying 8.25 crores at auction.

5. Virat Kohli:

Virat Kohli, the former Indian captain, is the only player to hit more than 6,000 runs in the IPL. The batting great has scored these runs in 207 games for a single club, Royal Challengers Bangalore, averaging 37.39 and striking out at a rate of 129.94. Kohli’s best IPL score of 113 runs came in IPL 2016 when RCB made 211/3 in the first innings and went on to win the match by 82 runs. RCB has retained Kohli for Rs. 15 crores INR in the IPL 2022 season.
