After an exhilarating mega auction for the IPL 2022, it’s time to get down to business with the on-field action, as the kick-off date for the showpiece tournament’s 15th edition has been officially confirmed. According to the previous report, the IPL 2022 began on March 27. However, according to the most recent sources, the competition will start a day ahead of schedule.
The Indian Premier League is slated to begin on March 26 this year, according to Cricbuzz, and the decision was made during a meeting of the IPL Governing Council on February 24. With the inclusion of two new clubs, the Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans, this year’s cash-rich championship will be a 10-team affair. At the same time, it was known that the competition’s schedule would be formally released soon.
The IPL will begin on March 26; a complete schedule will be released soon. There will be crowds, but only under Maharashtra government policy. According to Cricbuzz, IPL Chairman Brijesh Patel stated, “Whether it will be 25 or 50 per cent of the stadium capacity will be decided by government direction.”
Furthermore, it has been reported that the showpiece event will be entirely held in India after the COVID-19 cases improve, even though South Africa was rumoured to be one of the venues at first. In IPL 2022, 70 matches will be contested over four venues: Wankhede Stadium, Brabourne, DY Patil, and the Maharashtra Cricket Association, with 55 games in place in Mumbai and 15 in Pune.
There was no home advantage for any club in the previous edition. The franchises played group stage matches at neutral locations before the tournament was interrupted due to the COVID-19 epidemic in various camps and had to be suspended indefinitely after the first leg. The second leg was held in the United Arab Emirates. The defending champions, Chennai Super Kings, will be aiming for a record-tying fifth crown this time around.
